STUTTGART, Germany — More than 20 leading policy makers from the Black Sea region gathered here April 20 with senior U.S. officials to gain a deeper understanding of issues affecting the region and encourage problem solving in areas of common interest. The Harvard Black Sea Security Program promotes a regional approach to addressing security issues “in a world that changes almost every week,” said program director Dr. Sergie Konoplyov of the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government.

We started planning of our annual Harvard Black Sea Security Program. The centerpiece of the program will be six-day session at Harvard on 23-27 April, 2007 which will bring together about twenty very senior officials of the Black Sea region with about twenty U.S. general officers and civilian officials. As part of the program we are also making arrangements for regional participants to spend two days at in Zagreb, Croatia for a seminar on regional security and a workshop in Stuttgart (EUCOM). Working language is English.
The program will begin with a trip to Zagreb on April 16. The participants will then travel to Stuttgart on April 19 and later to Boston on April 21. Participants would fly to their home countries on Saturday, April 28.

The newly established General Drastamat Kanayan Institute for National Strategic Studies, MOD, Armenia recently became a member of Greater Black Sea Area Working Group of NATO PfP Consortium of Defense Academies and Security Studies Institutes. During last year the Armenian INSS successfully played an important role of Secretariat of the Interagency Commission on Elaboration of Armenia's first National Security Strategy. The Harvard Black Sea Secuirty Program congratulates our Armenian colleagues from INSS for their membership in Greater Black Sea Area Working Group of NATO PfP Consortium.
